Announcements

Good Shepherd Nursery:  Parents, please know that our nursery is NOT STAFFED, so if your children do go into the nursery during the worship hour, someone needs to accompany them.  THANK YOU!

Adult Education:  Grab a cup of coffee and join Beth Krolak in the sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. for the fourth session on the Beatitudes.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Lenten Suppers:  Lenten suppers will be served by our senior high youth families each Wednesday evening through the season of Lent.  The suppers are served in the fellowship hall from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  The meal will feature a variety of home made soups (come early for best selection), as well as a light sandwich on Great Harvest Bread, drinks and dessert.  A donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children 8 and under is suggested.  All proceeds will go toward our 2010 Senior High Youth Mission Trip to Chicago.  Please join us for warm food and fellowship.

The Promise of Rochester -- Good Shepherd Women's Group Event:  On Friday, March 19th, a group of Good Shepherd women will be attending “The Promise of Rochester”.  This musical drama about the life of Jesus Christ will be performed at Bethel Lutheran Church.  The performance runs from 7:00 -9:00 pm.  The audience witnesses the birth, death, burial, resurrection & ascension of Jesus.  The cost of tickets is $10 for adults and $8 for youth 17 & under.  This is a Rochester community production and more than 16 area congregations are involved.  If you wish to attend, please indicate on the "Count Me In" form.  You may leave a check payable to Bethel Lutheran Church in the office by March 7th  and your tickets will be available to pick up in the church office on March 14th . You may order your own tickets by calling 288-6430.

Communion Assistants Needed:  We are in need of 4 communion assistants for the 10:30 a.m. service.  This involves bringing bread, prepping for communion, serving communion and doing clean-up.  You would be serving 3-4 Sundays per year.  This opportunity is open to adults or families with children who have been through their communion training.  If interested, please indicate on the "Count Me In" form.

The Power of Prayer:  Every Sunday for the past six months, Good Shepherd’s prayer list has included an individual named Scott Stepp.  On March 21st between services, Scott and Kathleen Stepp would like to invite you to hear the story of Scott’s battle with an illness called Blastomycosis and his recovery in the U of M intensive care unit, which even his doctors have referred to as a miracle.

Salvation Army Dinner - Volunteers Needed:  A big thanks to the women who served at the Salvation Army dinner on Friday, February 28.  All who were there agreed that the experience was very rewarding and they felt greatly appreciated.  Good Shepherd will again be serving the meal at the Salvation Army in Rochester on April 2.  We need 5-6 volunteers to take this on.  The volunteers will serve from 5:00 -7:00 pm.  Families are welcome which can include kids ages 8 years old and up.  To volunteer, please indicate on the "Count Me In" form.  For questions, please contact Deb Weinrich at deb.goodshepherd @embarqmail.com or 534-4256.

Good Shepherd Parent’s Group is looking for parents interested in helping out with this year’s Easter egg hunt.  There will be a meeting on March 14th between services in the nursery to plan the activity (which will be held on March 28th, followed by a meal in the fellowship hall).  In addition, we will be discussing future activities and looking for input from interested parents.

Easter Egg Hunt:  Parents and children are invited to some fun following the 10:30 a.m. service on March 28th, Palm Sunday.  Join other young families for an Easter egg hunt and meal.  We will also look ahead to future activities, looking for input from interested parents.

Lasagna Supper:  The Trinity Youth Mission Team will hold a Lasagna Supper, Saturday, March 6th from 5:00-7:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. There will be a free will offering. Proceeds will support their upcoming Mission Trip to Nashville, TN.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2010 will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 7-9 from 6:00 – 7:45 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church.  This will be for students who just completed pre-kindergarten through 4th grades.  We are in the initial phases of planning and need adult and youth (5th grade and up) volunteers.  If you can help in any way, fill out the “Count Me In” form or email Lynn or Carole Joyce (carole35@charter.net), or talk to Julene Horstman. Thank you.

Adventurers Camp at Good Earth Village will again be offered by Good Shepherd for any students completing grades K-4.  This is a one day camp on Thursday, August 5th.  The camp runs from 9:00 – 4:00 with lunch provided.  Good Shepherd will pay the camp fee and provide transportation to and from GEV in Spring Valley.  If you would like to participate in this great opportunity, please complete and return the necessary form by March 7 (forms are available in the church office or on the table in the narthex).  After this date we can’t guarantee a reserved spot for you.  If you have any questions please call Julene Horstman at 534-3505.

Simply Giving Program:  Not able to attend church, but still want to make your contribution?  Good Shepherd has a program entitled ‘Simply Giving’.  This program is an ACH program which allows you to automatically have your monthly contribution deducted directly from your checking/savings account each month.  Currently we have six families utilizing this convenience.  It is simple to sign up and easy to implement this program that will allow you to make your pledge or gifts as desired.  If you want to take part in this program, we have brochures available in the narthex, Member Enrollment and Authorization Forms available in the narthex, or you can contact the church office.

Good Earth Village Bible Camp:  A week (or several days) at Bible camp is a wonderful way to have lots of fun, explore God’s amazing creation, and have great faith conversations.  Because this can be such a meaningful experience, Good Shepherd will pay half the fee of any student who would like to go to camp at Good Earth Village this summer!  This offer is for any student kindergarten - 9th grade.  (Full scholarships are available for anyone with financial need.  Just talk to Pastor Kevin.)  It would be fun to have a group go together, so we picked August 1-6 as Good Shepherd week.  If August 1-6 doesn’t work for you, choose any week that does.  Brochures are available at church.  Pick one up to register and see all the options.  Send your registration and deposit directly to Good Earth Village.  Then let us know you are going. (GEV recommends you register by early to mid-March to guarantee the week you want.)

Senior High Mission Trip 2010:  We're headed to Chicago!  A group of Senior High Youth, presently in grades 9-12, will depart on July 11th for a short term mission trip with the Center for Student Missions.  We will be serving in the urban setting until July 16th.  To learn more about our trip, please talk to Deb Weinrich or log onto CSM's web site (www.csm.org).  Registrations are presently being taken.  We have expanded our numbers. Thirteen spots are currently filled.  For more details, please e-mail Deb at deb.goodshepherd@embarqmail.com.  We'd love to have you join us.

Aluminum Can Collection:  The Senior High Youth continue to collect aluminum cans.  Please place your bagged cans in the wood crate between the two sheds and we will take care of it from there.  Thanks for your continued support.
